Request a Flight Lesson

Colorado Pilots LLC offers specialized flight instruction and aviation mentorship for pilots looking to build confidence beyond the local practice area.

Rather than offering a generic online booking calendar, each lesson is coordinated directly based on the pilot’s goals, experience level, aircraft availability, preferred airport, and training objectives. This allows the lesson to be more focused, practical, and tailored to the type of flying you actually want to improve.

Whether you are interested in mountain flying, cross-country planning, aircraft transitions, endorsements, or simply becoming a more confident pilot, the best place to start is with a quick call, text, or email.

Flight Instruction Offered

Mountain Flying Introduction

An introductory mountain flying lesson focused on the unique challenges of operating near high terrain. Topics may include density altitude, route planning, wind and weather considerations, terrain awareness, emergency options, and conservative decision making.

This can be a great option for pilots who are new to mountain flying or want to better understand what makes flying in mountainous terrain different from normal local flying.

Mountain Flying Training

More in-depth mountain flying instruction for pilots who want to build practical experience operating in high terrain environments.

Training may include mountain route planning, performance planning, ridge and pass considerations, weather evaluation, airport selection, decision points, escape routes, and real-world aeronautical decision making.

Cross-Country Flight Planning & Mentorship

Instruction focused on planning and executing longer cross-country flights with a more operational mindset.

Topics may include weather analysis, route selection, fuel planning, alternate planning, airspace considerations, airport selection, risk management, and in-flight decision making.

This is ideal for pilots who want to become more confident flying beyond familiar local routes.

Discovery Flight / Introductory Lesson

A discovery flight can be arranged for someone interested in experiencing general aviation for the first time or exploring whether flight training may be a good fit.

This is not intended to replace a structured primary training program, but it can be a great first step for someone who wants to better understand what flying a small airplane is like.

High Performance Endorsement

Instruction for pilots seeking a high performance endorsement under 14 CFR § 61.31(f).

Training focuses on aircraft systems, performance considerations, power management, operating procedures, emergency considerations, and safe operation of aircraft with an engine of more than 200 horsepower.

Complex Endorsement

Instruction for pilots seeking a complex aircraft endorsement under 14 CFR § 61.31(e).

Training focuses on retractable landing gear, flaps, controllable-pitch propeller operation, aircraft systems, checklist discipline, emergency procedures, performance planning, and operational decision making.

Tailwheel Endorsement

Instruction for pilots seeking a tailwheel endorsement under 14 CFR § 61.31(i).

Training focuses on normal and crosswind takeoffs and landings, wheel landings, go-arounds, directional control, ground handling, and the unique handling characteristics of tailwheel aircraft.

Aircraft Familiarization & Transition Training

Instruction for pilots transitioning into a new aircraft type, avionics setup, or operating environment.

This may include aircraft systems, checklist flows, performance planning, avionics familiarization, emergency procedures, normal operations, and confidence-building flights tailored to the aircraft and pilot.

Pilot Proficiency & Confidence Building

Scenario-based instruction for pilots who want to sharpen their skills, regain confidence, or become more comfortable with real-world flying.

Training may include airspace operations, weather decision making, airport operations, emergency procedures, cross-country scenarios, performance planning, and practical risk management.

How Lessons Are Coordinated

Every lesson starts with a conversation.

To help plan the right type of flight, please include:

  • What type of training you are interested in

  • Your certificate level and approximate flight experience

  • Your preferred airport

  • Whether you will provide the aircraft or need help arranging one

  • The aircraft type, if known

  • Your goals for the lesson

  • Any endorsements, proficiency goals, or specific areas you want to work on

  • General availability

Aircraft options may vary depending on airport, mission, club/rental availability, insurance requirements, instructor checkout requirements, and the type of training requested.

Aircraft and Airport Options

Instruction may be available using your aircraft, a rental aircraft, or other available aircraft options depending on the type of training and location.

Common considerations include:

  • Aircraft type and equipment

  • Insurance and checkout requirements

  • Rental or club policies

  • Airport location

  • Training objective

  • Weather and seasonal conditions

  • Mountain route or destination, if applicable

If you are not sure what aircraft or airport makes the most sense, reach out and we can talk through the best option for your goals.

Training Philosophy

The focus of ColoradoPilots.com is practical, real-world aviation mentorship.

Many flight lessons teach a maneuver. The better lessons teach judgment.

My goal is to help pilots become more thoughtful, capable, and confident by connecting aircraft control, planning, weather, terrain, performance, and decision making into one complete picture.

Whether the lesson is focused on mountain flying, cross-country planning, an endorsement, or pilot proficiency, the emphasis remains the same:

Preparation. Proficiency. Judgment. Margin.

Important Notes

All flight instruction is subject to aircraft availability, weather, airport logistics, insurance requirements, and applicable FAA regulations.

Some endorsements or training events may require multiple lessons depending on pilot experience, aircraft complexity, proficiency, and comfort level.

Mountain flying lessons are especially weather-dependent and may need to be rescheduled if winds, turbulence, ceilings, visibility, density altitude, or other conditions are not suitable.

Safety and good decision making come first.
